The cycle is based on a thought and memory experiment: What happens to laughter when I pull apart a folded lantern ball with a smiling moon and sun face painted on it? KM folded wrapping paper like the bellows of an accordion. Painted with figures and then pulled apart, an alienating stroboscopic effect is created, as if ‘I’s’ were doubled here. KM uses the effect for pictorially painted lamellae.
